Henfield pond re-profile

It is always nice to have such a local project, only a stone’s throw from our Sussex depot.
The good sized pond was very silted and the depth of water had become nominal as a result. Some of the banks were also steep and not easily maintained.
The shallow levels had encouraged the reeds to encroach from the margins towards the centre of the water.

The client wished to see more clear water and attain a more approachable surround to the pond and so it was decided to clean out and re-profile some of the banks.
This was carried out with the minimum of fuss and the silts were placed in a bunded area of the adjacent field to dry and be re-graded and seeded at a later date.
Two springs were found to be feeding the pond on the uphill side, creating an unwanted marshy area. The springs were captured and channelled into the pond via new inlet pipes.
Following the excavations, topsoil was then spread over the affected areas and seeded.
