Maplehurst new dig pond

This new dig in West Sussex was part of a new scheme of landscaping and building works undertaken by the client. They wished to create a pond within the garden to compliment the new annex building and enhance the view into the garden and woods from the house. A site visit confirmed the suitability of the clay sub-soil for the creation of a natural clay pond. There was a watercourse along the site which could supply the pond with rainwater to top up the levels periodically. The site was set out and excavations commenced to a set of profiles agreed with the client. Careful consideration was given to depths and the sympathetic inclusion into the surrounding landscape.

The large amount of spoil was to remain on site and used to reclaim a low lying paddock area. Topsoil in this area was previously stripped and subsequently re-graded over the compacted subsoil from the newly dug pond.

The newly dug clay pond matures and naturalises fairly quickly giving the lived in appearance and inclusion into the surrounding features the client desires.
