Sussex Yacht Club

This major dredging project was the second of its kind undertaken for the Shoreham-by-Sea based yacht club in Sussex. The brief was to capital dredge between several of the club’s jetties to remove up to 1m depth of river silts. This would allow the boats that moor at these jetties to access their moorings at lower tide levels and increase the usage of the much sought after berths.

Samples of the silts were tested for their suitability as inert landfill and dredged using our long reach excavator into a holding area normally used as the dinghy park. Some 1,250 cubic metres were dredged between tides over a four day period and the silts stacked along side the quay to reduce the water content.

After a 3 week period of drying the silts were loaded and hauled away for disposal at a nearby licensed site. The material was quickly removed and cleared up, the Yacht Club’s hardstand and car park cleaned with a road sweeper and the dingy park restored to its original condition. The Club was clean, tidy and de-silted ready for their annual open weekend much to the delight of the management and members.
