PHB specialise in the installation of Butyl and EPDM lake and pond lining systems.

Where a porous soil type or low water table exists, the level of an existing pond or lake can fluctuate dramatically throughout the seasons. Whilst this can aid biodiversity in the natural setting, if the body of water has been designed as part of a landscape the bias is usually towards keeping the water in and maintaining a level. We frequently fit lining systems to existing and old ponds to restore and maintain desired water levels.
PHB have designed and constructed many artificially lined lakes and ponds within landscapes and gardens where soil or topography would have previously prohibited them. The use of Butyl and EPDM liners can open up the possibilities of design, stretching the imagination and blending the surrounding landscape to achieve truly stunning effects.

Many of our liner commissions have been deep within the chalk downs, from dewpond to lake, or within the porous sandy Surrey downs, all managing to capture and hold the water where it is best appreciated.
The rising cost of Butyl rubber polymer has increased the popularity of EPDM in recent years, many properties of which actually outperform Butyl. We will only fit the best liners, fabricated here in the UK from high quality synthetic rubber membranes from Trelleborg in Sweden. Our Greenseal EPDM systems have no negative effect on the environment, they do not release any chemicals that can affect fauna, flora or ecological systems and they are recyclable. This makes them the perfect choice for creating lakes or ponds for wildlife and conservation.

PHB have many years experience in creating lined water features. Our systems will include many cleverly concealed features, automatic topping up systems, reliable drainage systems and carefully constructed banks and edge details. These, when coupled with high quality geotextile membranes good installation techniques, ensure the lined lakes and ponds we craft will have a long and maintenance free life.
