Sadly, there are still many lakes and ponds that have suffered neglect or have simply been tested by the rigours of time. The repair of leaking dams, damaged or worn liners, eroded banks and management of invasive plants such as reed-mace are all common occurrences.

We take a sensitive approach to each unique enquiry and are experienced and adaptable enough to undertake the most challenging commission to restore a lake, pond or feature to it’s former glory.

Work usually starts with the selective removal and clearance of self set trees and overgrowth to reveal the extent of the lake or pond. De-silting and excavation works can often be challenging, sometimes requiring our long reach excavator working off bog mats to ‘float’ across the larger areas of matted reeds.

Our vast experience across the South-East of England with Weald clay has allowed us to become specialists in clay pond and dam repairs. We will confidently undertake remedial works to leaking dams and spillways, regaining watertight integrity and restoring desired water levels.

In some cases the pond or lake may require re-puddling with clay, or on more porous soils, the installation of a butyl liner to regain watertight integrity.

Bank erosion and re instatement is often a common problem when carrying out restoration works. PHB can offer a variety of solutions such as block and brick edge, timber pallistrade, oak board, stone filled gabions or rockwork. There are also a variety of organic solutions available with the advent of specially pre-formed matting and coir revetment systems.
